The Wasson's anchor store, on the mall's northwest end. It closed in
April 1980 and eventually re-opened as a Burlington Coat Factory.
This store lasted until 2004.
One of many classic mall and retro retail internet sites, the MALL HALL OF FAME is a "Mid-mod" mall museum, covering shopping centers of America's mid-20th century (1950-1979). There are short articles, a few photos, and at least one physical layout drawing for every mall inducted. Please feel free to post any additional info you may be aware of. Thanks much.

From my devotion to accuracy department...
The logo on the Wasson's graphic shows where the signage would have been. Though I remember it as a sans serif font, not a script.
Hello, - I've found a photo that includes a good view of the Wasson's 60s logo. Is there an e-mail address where I can send you that photo?
Hiya,
Thanks for offering the EASTGATE photo. I would love to see it...but I am quite reluctant (paranoid) to post my actual e-mail addy on here. I get enough bull#$@% as it is, hee hee....
I did have an alternate Hotmail account...but -apparently- that is gone and MSN took it over or something.
You could post an email addy on here that I could reply to. I will check this posting place here and IMMEDIATELY delete the post, if you do this. If not, I will certainly understand.
Another option...you don't have a place -such as Flickr- to post pics on the web?
I guess I need to check out MSN Mail and set up another alternate account. If I do this, I hope that they will -then- leave it the heck alone then...and not morph the mail thing into something else anytime soon...hee hee.
Cheers,
I understand about the e-mail thing.
So instead, here's the link where I found the photo.

It's not a photo of Eastgate, but of the Wasson's downtown location. It's actually a grainy tinted shot of a downtown Indy fast food. But if you follow the line of cars on the street, you'll see the Wasson's building to the left.
My mistake. The font was a script hand. The only thing you don't get is the "o" due to a light pole. But it's a great example of the signage used on all their stores through the 60s. Glad I could finally find an example for you.
Anon,
I followed the link and saved the photo..Thanks much. I will see what I can do to try and modify my Wasson's/Eastgate rendering to more accurately portray the way that the W's logo looked circa-1957.
The downtown Indy BURGER CHEF in the photo brought back many fond memories for me.
I hail from the Cincinnati-Dayton area (over in the "Buckeye State") and I fondly recall the opening of a Burger Chef in my neighborhood...this being WAYYYY BACK in the fall of 1967.
I still think that a Big Chef was about the best burger I ever had. I hated to see the chain fold in the 1980s.
Thanks -again- for the memories!
Btw....was there, by any chance, a Burger Chef -outparcel- on the perimeter of EASTGATE CENTER...back in "the days"? If so, I will be delighted to add it onto the site plan of the mall.
Cheers,
